Over the whole of week 4 in the Design Engine office, I worked again on drawing up the various proposed rooms within the library building, including: the tea room for staff, the printing room, and two book stores and shelving spaces, as well as the actual library itself from all its various elevations. I became extremely quick using Vector Works, easily navigating myself around and getting to know all the various tricks and anomalies that each different construction software has! I feel as though I have certainly achieved one goal at Design Engine, that was to learn new softwares as I know how many there are in the world of design and Architecture. I can now confidently say - and write on my CV - that I have a fair amount of experience working with Vector Works! It has also been nice to prove to myself that I can overcome the challenges of working with computer software, and also my abilities and ways of learning - that is I am able to quickly pick up a new skill as long as I practice it over and over again.
Below is a visual that Marco and his team working on Canford School Library have created - a concept collage-style kind of render, which I actually really like. It shows me that although this is a concept image it is still very neat and beautifully presented, and really shows the kind of spacious, calm environment they're trying to create for the pupils, even through tiny illustrative details like the use of the evening setting sun. I even like the fact that it has been created on a background of textured paper, adding a bit of professionalism and delicacy to the drawing style. I've definitely learned throughout my time at Design Engine that less, and minimalism is often far more effective in cleanliness and the presentation of ideas, and I believe my own renders and drawings are beginning to take on this quality - for example I often play with the opacity of images which I find gives the visual a far more professional quality.
